The Grandma Wall

1. About this policy

This policy explains what the Grandma Wall ("the Wall") does with your information. The Wall is operated by PB Tails for the Grandma project, and is reached at pbtails.com/pages/grandma.

2. What we collect

To let you add a memory, we store the following:

• Account: your email address and a display name you choose. A password, if you set one, is handled and hashed by our authentication provider and is never visible to us.
• Your memory: the pixel-art image the Wall generates, and the message you write.
• A profile picture, if you choose to upload one.
• Activity: the memories you like, and the comments you leave.
• Cartridge registration: the cartridge number you register, if you have one.

3. Your original photo stays on your device

The photograph you turn into a memory never leaves your device. The conversion to pixel art happens entirely in your browser. Only the resulting pixel-art image is sent to us. We never receive, transmit or store the original photograph.

A profile picture is different. If you set one, you upload that file deliberately, and we do store it.

4. Where your information is stored

Your information is stored on servers operated by Supabase, running on Amazon Web Services infrastructure in the United States (AWS region us-east-2, Ohio). If you are outside the United States, this means your information is transferred to, and stored in, the United States.

5. Why we use it

To display your memory on the Wall, to operate likes and comments, to show your cartridge status, and to keep the service working and safe. We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

6. What other people can see

The Wall is public. Anyone visiting the page can see, without signing in:

• the pixel-art image and the message you published;
• your display name, and your cartridge number if you registered one;
• how many likes a memory has, and the comments left on it.

Your email address is never shown publicly. Comments appear with the display name you chose, never with your email.

7. Cookies and browser storage

We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. When you sign in, a session token is kept in your browser's local storage so that you stay signed in. Signing out removes it.

8. Third-party services

• Supabase — database, file storage and sign-in (United States).
• jsDelivr — delivers the JavaScript library the page needs, so your browser contacts their CDN.
• Google Fonts — supplies the page's typefaces, so your browser contacts Google.

We do not use analytics, advertising trackers, or third-party content-screening services. If automated content screening is added later, this policy will be updated before it is switched on.

9. How long we keep it

A published memory stays on the Wall until you ask us to remove it, or we remove it ourselves. Account information is kept while your account exists. Signing out does not delete anything — it only ends your session on that device.

10. Your rights

You can ask us to show you the information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it — including removing a memory, a comment, or your whole account. Contact us using section 14. If you are in the EEA, the UK, California or another region with data protection law, you also have the rights that law gives you, and you may complain to your local supervisory authority.

11. Security

Information is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with providers that encrypt data at rest. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you do not reuse anywhere else.

12. Children

The Wall is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has added a memory, contact us and we will remove it.

13. Changes

We may update this policy; the date at the top will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.

1. Acceptance

These terms govern your use of the Grandma Wall ("the Wall"). By using it, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Wall.

2. The service

The Wall lets you turn a photograph into a pixel-art image and publish it, with a short message, on a public wall. It also lets you register a cartridge and interact with memories other people have published. The Wall is part of the Grandma project by PB Tails.

3. Your account

To publish, comment or like, you need an account with a working email address and a display name. Keep your password to yourself — anything done through your account is treated as done by you. One account per person.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of the images and messages you publish. By publishing, you give us permission to display them on the Wall, to store them for that purpose, and to feature them in our own promotion of this project — on Kickstarter, our website, and our social channels. You are also free to share, repost and reprint anything you create here; the pixel portrait we generate is yours to keep and to pass on. We will not use your content in marketing material without asking you first.

We may hide any content from public view at any time. We hide rather than erase, so that a mistaken removal can be undone.

5. Photographs of other people

Your original photograph never leaves your device. The image is turned into pixel art by your own browser, and only that pixel version is uploaded — we never receive, transmit or store the original. The pixel portrait is a new work produced by our process, and we make it for you at your request.

Many memories are of people who have died, or who cannot consent for themselves. By publishing a photograph, you confirm that you have the right to share it — including, where the person is deceased or cannot consent, that you have the agreement of whoever holds their rights, typically their close family — and that doing so does not violate anyone's rights or privacy. If you are not sure you have that right, please do not publish it.

6. Prohibited content

Do not publish content that is:

• hateful, harassing or discriminatory;
• sexually explicit or violent;
• someone else's private information;
• illegal, or promoting illegal activity;
• intended to disrupt or damage the service.

7. Moderation

Memories are published immediately and reviewed afterwards, so inappropriate content may be briefly visible. We may hide content and suspend accounts that break these terms. You can report something by contacting us.

8. Cartridge registration

Each cartridge can be registered once, and each account may register one cartridge. The code printed on your cartridge is the only proof of ownership — keep it private, because anyone who has it can register that cartridge to their own account. Registration links a cartridge to an account; it does not affect any statutory rights you have as a buyer.

9. Intellectual property

The Grandma Wall concept, PB Tails branding, and Zhou Yichen's original artwork belong to their respective owners. Nothing here transfers those rights to you.

10. Availability

The Wall is provided free of charge as part of a promotional project. We may change, suspend or discontinue it, and we cannot promise that it will always be available or that content will never be lost.

11. Disclaimer and liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Ending your access

You may stop using the Wall at any time and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong, where the operator is established. Nothing in this clause removes any protection you are entitled to under the mandatory consumer law of the country in which you live.
